Suddenly,

Ben had to go back to Malaysia for a job interview. Very short notice indeed.

So went to Moretti Cafe at Glen Waverley before his flight. Have always wanted to go there, mainly intrigued by their wide array of irresistible cakes.

And my choice of the night, ladies and gentlemen, was sweet lemon tart, recommended by a very charming and friendly staff. It was so fresh that it's soft! The boys thought it was a tad too sweet but it was perfect to my liking. What can I say, taste is subjective after all.

As usual, hot chocolate for yours truly. Fortunately it was as strong as I requested.

The boys shared a marinara pizza. I have to say, this is probably one of the best pizzas I've had in Melbourne! Excellent taste-wise and was very impressed by the generous topping. Even Ben approved of it too.

Seems slightly bizarre to have the whole house to myself, reckon I need some time to absorb it. Oh well, come what may.

Anyway, went to 'A day in Pompeii' exhibition at Melbourne Museum last Saturday. Was so excited, have always been so fascinated by the history of Pompeii!

Alas, amidst all this excitement, I had a 'technical' issue with my camera. So I charged my camera the night before and on my out the next day, I DID remember to bring the camera along but DID NOT remember to insert the charged-up battery in the camera!! I was only aware of it when I reached the museum, silly me.

Luckily the Blackberry came to the rescue (despite the obvious resolution difference).

Roman soldiers with historical facts about the Roman empire and Pompeii.

The exhibition was undoubtedly an eye-opener. Whether it was a loaf of carbonised bread or the architecture design, it was equally mind blowing. However, I was particularly moved by witnessing the body casts.

I've seen them countless times on TV but seeing them with my own eyes was different. It was as if the horror, the helplessness and the desperation inflicted upon them by Vesuvius at their final moments had remained frozen since that fateful day many a thousand years ago. Everyone there was eerily quiet out of respect for the deceased.

Oh yea, there's also a 3D short film re-enacting the monstrosity of the eruption on 24 August 79 A.D. Imagine an avalanche of molten lava heading towards you, no wonder there were so much casualties, it was almost impossible to escape.

Anyway, almost everyone I know is aware of my sentiments towards Melbourne Museum - it's the most boring museum that I've ever been to! Now, coming from a museum lover like myself, that says a lot. I've been there twice prior to this (part of the uni orientation week) and I was bored to death twice despite my futile attempt to locate anything interesting.

However, I went in the museum this time anyway as ticket to Pompeii also includes general admission to the museum. I'm glad I did because I miraculously managed to spot something interesting this time - history of Melbourne. That makes me wonder whether it has always been there or it is fairly new.

I've always had a soft spot for old black and white photos, so I spent some time at this section. I was also fascinated by the life-size early 19th century model houses, it's almost like time traveling to the early 19th century and having a sneak peak into their everyday life. Consequently I'm so glad that I'm living in the 21st century, I've been so spoiled by its abundance of advanced technology that there's no way I could I live in those days! Hmm, I wonder if two centuries later people would think of 21st century as primitive or even medieval, wouldn't that be interesting?

Think I've gone slightly off tangent, the above horse carriage was one of the early modes of transports in Melbourne by the way. So my impression of Melbourne Museum has improved positively after this. I would be so totally in love with them if they could also throw an Egyptian exhibition!

Went to Lentil as Everything at St Kilda for lunch after that. Realised I haven't been there for a while and I felt like going to the beach too.

Had a chai latte.

Plus dahl and rice.

On a totally random note, I've been hooked on Moonlight recently, all thanks to David my colleague.

The ensemble.

I was quite besotted with the lead role, Mick St John played by Alex O'Loughlin. Did I also mention Mick St John is a vampire? Now you understand. What can I say, girls are generally attracted to bad/dangerous boys. A tall, dark, dashing and mysterious vampire who has unparalleled strength and speed, need I say more?

His photos don't do him justice, he is so much more charming on screen. By the way, did you know Alex O'Loughlin is Aussie? I'm impressed.

Beth Turner (Sophia Myles) and Mick St John, perfect on-screen couple. Human-vampire relationship, complicated yet romantic, another selling point for the series. What can I say, forbidden love is a turn on.

It's a shame that CBS has permanently canceled the series as of last year, I'd have loved to see how Beth and Mick work things out. Too bad. Some other network please pick up Moonlight!
